The second dinner in our fall UpValley Supper series features a rare and luxurious selection of wines featuring the King of Piemontese varieties: Nebbiolo. Named after the Nebbia—the autumn fog that clings to mid-harvest hillsides around Barolo and Barbaresco—much like the wave that rolls over the gap from Petaluma keeping our vineyards here cool overnight, Nebbiolo is iconic in the wine world for producing wines of effortless ageability and its unmatched pairing with local cuisine. Its wines also happen to be touchstones in the longstanding friendship between wine director Lauren Feldman and Dan O'Brien of Gail Wines. Dan has at long last made a Nebbiolo of his own, bottled exclusively in magnums. He marked the occasion by creating another classic Italian beverage with dear friend and collaborator, Lance Winters of St. George Spirits in Alameda: Chinato - a fortified, herbaceously infused wine made from local, Sonoma Valley fruit - the ultimate delight! But wait, there's more. We will be pulling corks on some of our favorite benchmark Piemontese Nebbiolos to pour side-by-side with the local concoctions. And, the final decadence: white Piemontese truffles. This is the Sunday Supper of the season, the perfect way to welcome the holidays the Sunday before Thanksgiving, and not to be missed.
$250 includes food (yes, truffles), wine (yes, Barolo) and gratuity.
